چکیده

Numerical algebraic geometry provides a number of efficient tools for approximating the solutions of polynomial systems. One such tool is the parameter homotopy, which can be an extremely efficient method to solve numerous polynomial systems that differ only in coefficients, not monomials. This technique is frequently used for solving a parameterized family of polynomial systems at multiple parameter values. Parameter homotopies have recently been useful in several areas of application and have been implemented in at least two software packages. This article describes Paramotopy, a new, parallel, optimized implementation of this technique, making use of the implementation in the Bertini software package. The novel features of this implementation not available elsewhere include allowing for the simultaneous solutions of arbitrary polynomial systems in a parameterized family on an automatically generated (or manually provided) mesh in the parameter space of coefficients, front ends and back ends that are easily specialized to particular classes of problems, and adaptive techniques for solving polynomial systems near singular points in the parameter space. This last feature automates and simplifies a task that is important but often misunderstood by non-experts.

ITERATED INTEGRALS OF SUPERCONNECTIONS 0902a

Iterated integration of a connection gives the holonomy or parallel transport of the connection. Iterated integration of a superconnection gives something else which we call a “superconnection parallel transport.” We ask under what conditions are the holonomies of a connection on a graded vector bundle chain maps and under what conditions the superconnection parallel transports give homotopies ...

Unsteady MHD nonlinear radiative squeezing slip-flow of Casson fluid between parallel disks

Effect of nonlinear thermal radiation on the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic slip flow of Casson fluid between parallel disks in the presence of thermophoresis and Brownian motion effects are investigated numerically. A similarity transformation is employed to reduce the governing partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. Further, Runge-Kutta and Newton’s methods are ado...

Weak Factorizations, Fractions and Homotopies

We show that the homotopy category can be assigned to any category equipped with a weak factorization system. A classical example of this construction is the stable category of modules. We discuss a connection with the open map approach to bisimulations proposed by Joyal, Nielsen and Winskel.

Solution of Bounded Nonlinear Systems of Equations Using Homotopies with Inexact Restoration

Nonlinear systems of equations often represent mathematical models of chemical production processes and other engineering problems. Homotopic techniques (in particular, the bounded homotopies introduced by Paloschi) are used for enhancing convergence to solutions, especially when a good initial estimate is not available. In this paper, the homotopy curve is considered as the feasible set of a m...
